I think equipped items shouldn't take up space in the inventory/backpack. Our current system of inventory is based on slots. So really anything equipped should leave the inventory, in an RP sense we consider this our pouches/backpack. Now if our inventory changed to be based on carry weight instead, then it would make sense.
You can argue that it has to take up space, because in real life, you'd eventually rest and take the equipment off. But I don't think you'd place that in your backpack or anything like that. You'd set it next to you as you rested, right?

If we get changes to equipment, or anything that required us to start holding on to more things, I think this change could help some issues. At least a bit. I know I've been on a full inventory for a very long time. DEP mostly...

Do equipped items take up backpack space? It's been so long, I don't remember. Doesn't sound right.

Quest items are another area that should be separate from the standard carrying capacity.

They don't appear to actually take a slot in backpack, but is regardless counted as one, so the backpack is usable despite showing something like 32/30.
But yeah, I don't think equipped items should show up in backpack at all.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looking at this atm. Items that are equipped at marked as location=body, so I'm baffled that this is even an issue. The function that checks backpack usage doesn't include that as one of the locations (smiley)

Edit: Oh... it's just the actual display of the items that's not filtering them out. I must have had a plan to filter client-side and one point and then changed my mind. Fixing now...

Edit 2: Fixed
