Awesome! On a sort of similar note, I think I've proposed this before, but I can't remember what the outcome was...

Are cloning items possible? I.e. the underlying item is, for example, Field Marshall's Flare Gun, but the image is Seige Blade (or any other weapon you own).

I'm not sure how complex this would be on the back-end, but I would love to equip items that I prefer the LOOK of, but that maintain the stats of equipment that are better.

Aesthetics matter to some, and the Field Marshall set is just meh. Much prefer my animated Seige set!

I can try to clarify better if this explanation isn't adequate.

Oh man, that was not meant as an insult, sorry about that

But how can we compare an animated item to a non-animated item? If it had some glow or something that made it seem... unique and powerful, it'd be more attractive.

Haha, no worries, no offense taken xD Just messing around. When I drew those (they are actually Big Boss Man items and he provided reference image for the items), it was originally supposed to be animated, however it was going to greatly exceed filesize limit (basically lighter line was supposed to run through the red glowish part around the items), tho perhaps using additive animation could have worked to keep filesize down. I think I also had concerns about it actually looking good in .gif, considering alpha value could either be 1 or 0.
I have experimented with animated .png tho, even though some browsers don't play it (in which case it is simply going to display first frame I think), unless they have added the support in last few years. But again, file size is an issue. Here's an example of animated Shining Dawn Gauntlets. Unless there's a way to have additive animation as with .gifs, it's basically going to be original size*frames. (My example has 3 frames)

I have plans with item artwork, including potentially upgrading the resolution of them. I'll take this into consideration, but I would argue that having the image changed to that of another item will only confuse other players.

The sentiment is understood though, being able to better customise the look of your character is important imho, but I think we can do it in a different way. Plus, just having more items in general will make it easier to differentiate yourself.
