Internal Forum Returned

We are now using the internal forum system. It is the original version of the internal forums, with all of the old threads. In a week or so, a new version will be installed.

Features of new forums:

* New categories and forums.
* Better thread controls.
* UI improvements.
* Faster loading.

In the meantime, don't be afraid to use the forums! Any threads deemed relevant will not be lost in future updates.

Reasons for doing this:

* It's more consistent to have chat and forum as part of the game.
* 99% of the players can't be bothered to register on an external forum.
* The difference in UI of the external forum was jarring for many users.
* Easier for FutureRP mods to keep an eye on, as it falls under their domain.
* Addons and expansions (such as showing player stats or guild directly in a post) are possible, whereas they are a nightmare on an external forum.
* No need to log in twice - once you're logged into the game, you're logged into the forum.

You are free to suggest ideas in the Idea Suggestion forum section, and I'll take them into account before I release the new version. Note: the new version is already a little different, with moderation tools expected to be more advanced. Such suggestions may already have been covered in the new design.

Feedback of any kind is welcome;)

FYI, if you have threads in the external forum, you are still able to access them.

Minor Updates

Allied guild members have been removed from the Swift Kill list, in a bid to encourage teamwork between guilds.

The bug tracker has been upgraded to MantisBT 1.2.0, in anticipation of the FutureRP's v1.3.0 update work. Since we currently deploy the latest version and all patches to the live server, the updates will come in individually instead of when the entire roadmap is complete.

Back To Full Speed?

I haven't had official word yet, but the connection speed has improved dramatically for several players.

Fingers crossed..

Temporary Slow Connection For Some Users

The datacenter is reporting that one of their bandwidth providers has experienced a fault. They are working around the clock to repair it, and rerouting traffic in the meantime.

Evidently, the connection speed for some users (including myself, in the UK) isn't great. It will be resolved very soon.

It might be a good idea to set up a competition for one day this week, with prizes (points or items) awarded those who complete certain special objectives. A few opportunities to attack may have been lost as a result of the bad connection; a bit of incentive to keep going will surely be welcomed ;-)

For the time being, it is probably worth trying every now and then. I seem to connect normally most of the time, with occasional drop-outs.

Update: the affected area is in New York, so I'm inclined to believe that it will be non-US players who are effected the most.

Alpha Test of Map Viewer

I've been messing around with a page that monitors the movements of players on a map.

In the future, it will show NPCs, their deaths, doorways and players shown as sprites.

It won't be part of the WORLD/Explore page, it's just something I've been working on. If there ends up being a use for it, great, if not, at least I can watch how players interact on the maps.

Here is a rather basic version. If there are people attacking, they'll move around in front of your eyes.

Bugfixes & Updates [10th Feb 10]

Guild message board now shows poster online status by colorizing their name.

Reduced attack timeout from 3 seconds to 2. This was supposed to already be the case, but it turns out that what I had set for 3 was 4 seconds and 2 was 3 seconds! You shouldn't really get hassled about attacking too fast now, unless you DO attack too fast;)
