I realise that it may not showcase the game's activity as it stands at the moment, but is it possible to bring back the "Top 5 players currently online" splash screen? Was there a reason for it going away?
I realise it looks a bit egotistical coming from me as I'd expect to be on there a fair bit, but I remember in my early days when the game was more active that trying to get in the top 5 on that page was what spurred me to continue playing and levelling. Perhaps it could help others in the same way and promote growth and new members?

The problem was, I had no control of what their avatars are. That, coupled with the shout box, was a bit of a pain on the logged-out home page.
I'm going to reinstate some more game state related stuff on the logged out home page, but I haven't really sat down and thought about it yet. If you mean the logged-in Player Home page, then yeah, maybe that could do with some thing like that added back

Yeah, I end up looking at the logged in home page a fair bit and it's where the shout box is. I just remember liking seeing who was online and having pipe dreams of the day my name would be up there!
You can't really control what people upload as their picture regardless so at the end of the day, it shouldn't make too much difference. If someone is intent on uploading a bad image, it's going to happen and you have to be able to contain it quickly but having it on the main page won't make much difference.

The difference is that it isnt indexed by google as part of the home page

I see that you plan this again. But I think you are right that the avatars aren't under your control. If anything, you could bring back what we used to have at the bottom of the screen in some way. It showed recent online players, ordered by account age, and showed level, etc.

Yeah, main home page is going to have the old leaderboard lists for players and guilds.
Tempted to show the top 5 players on the player home page though (the logged-in one). In theory it should always be people that have invested some time into the game and aren't about to post goatse pics as their avatar (and lose their account
)
