Is there any way to retrieve missed quest items? Started stun net quest years ago and didn't see the item to pick up!

I don't think there is, unfortunately! 
Should there be a Quest Item backpack created whereby any quest items are automatically deposited there (rather than dropped on the map)?
This would avoid the issue of disappearing quest items and subsequent impossibility of completing future quest milestones.

Yeah, I think we need a separate rule for quest items. They probably shouldn't take up backpack space either
