replace something means getting rid of the thing you want to delete for something useful

I am replacing Item Mods with Item Upgrades.

They work quite differently, so all of the complicated code behind Mods is redundant.
Any bugs in that code are therefore redundant by proxy, since they will be removed when the code is removed also.
