Yes. It happens sometimes - not sure what triggers it - clicking by accident 2 times on the continue button or clicking once on the continue button, holding a movement key pressed in the direction you're heading to and then accidentally clicking on that continue button again, before the next region loads. Something along these lines anyway.

If you are not standing in the tile with the portal, it will stop you.
