I think there should be a way for a player to increase the level and quality of any item they possess. Right now it's not too much of a problem but I'm worried about what would happen if the level cap on items is increased and possibly the quality cap as well. The efforts of players such as Aurum who created a level 150 Rare set ( the current max) will seemingly be wasted. If new levels and qualities become available then the SD set he created will be practically worthless.
So I propose a simple solution: Allow a player to spend points to upgrade each item. For instance let's say a level 200 player has a full rare SD set, instead of creating his own higher level/quality set he can pay, let's say, 1000 points per item to increase either the level (I'm thinking perhaps in 25 level increments) or the quality (from Rare to Masterful). So for 18,000 points he would then have a level 175 Masterful set. He can then do it again to have a level 200 Monstrous set.
Additionally, if an item's quality is increased it would have extra attribute points that need to be allocated, so I think that each player that upgrades their item's quality should be able to allocated those extra points however that want. That way we could have 100 people with the same set but all with different stats. Just thought this might be a nice way to customize characters a little more.

This sounds awesome! A great way to get some truly unique items in the game! At the monent, you have to wear a certain set at a certain level to keep up with everyone else!

The big problem with this, is there would be no purpose in creating or working to get new sets. You basically get a K set and upgrade it forever. It also defeats the purpose of increasing the level cap (if that ever happens) because what incentive would people have to raid for new gear.

Raiding would always be the preferred method for players that don't have a ton of points to throw around. If you start with a really low level 25 item or so it would cost you 45k points just to up it to level 150 ( if we go with the 1k points per upgrade idea) so it would be more beneficial to start with a higher level item.
As far as creating new items we would still have the same incentives that we have now, namely newer and cooler looking sets.

I just think its a cop out for lazy people. Personally if I could gain the same items just by upgrading my current items why would I raid at all?

Honestly I would think raising the level cap would be an ideal situation to introduce new content with new raids and items and allowing people with the money or points to be able to get a short cut to those goals would be a shame.

You don't want to reward the person with the biggest wallet you want to reward the person who expends the greatest effort.
