Are we okay with considering Places to be windows into the FutureRP universe, rather than mapping directly onto actual locations within said universe?

What I mean is, do we have Planet X have only one entry in the place listing... or, do we consider Planet X to be a more abstract concept and have multiple Places which happen to be set on that planet.

They can all be linked together internally to form a cohesive environment, but you can enter it from multiple angles.

I'm mostly talking to myself here, but I thought I'd ask before I start adding more content. The idea seems sound and consistent to me

Replying to myself...

I also think, if we do this, it'd be good to have a way to a**ociate a place with one or more locations, so you can identify that Place X and Y are set at location Z in the universe. Mostly good for finding content on a given planet/space vessel/etc., that you like.

Yes, I've convinced myself. This is probably the way to go. Keeps it simple. Keeps it possible to make lots of little bits and pieces gradually, that add up to a larger environment.

Do you mean the idea of having, say Prato 4, but being able to "land" at different points and approaching the location from a different angle?

I think with the concept of a text-based RPG, imagination has to play a bit part of your experience for you to feel integrated into the game. Personally, having more choice on how to approach certain content would be a good thing. I realise that games quite often develop M.E.T.A (Most Efficient Tactics Available) when it comes to training but it would add the the immersion for me personally.

Yeah, conceptually, there would be a planet called Prato 4, but there might be a handful of places listed that take place on that planet, rather than having one single place called Prato 4, and having to put the entire planet behind that portal.

Okay, let's stick with this paradigm then and see how it goes.

You might be only talking official. However being able to link my Veteran and n00b ESSM maps together to essentially the same universe would be interesting. I believe I already attempted to do such a thing. It only becomes more viable with quest builder though. (smiley)

I have to be honest, I can't remember if I added the option for you to portal between separate places for world builder (smiley) But if not, that's a triviality to add (smiley)
